Just one hour from Brisbane International Airport and Brisbane City, and one and a half hours from the Gold Coast, North Stradbroke Island is easily accessible by fast water taxi from Cleveland or vehicular ferry from Cleveland.
From Brisbane by car:
Follow signs to Old Cleveland Road, which takes you to Cleveland (a 30 minute drive). Water taxis and vehicular ferries depart Middle Street, Cleveland.
From Brisbane by rail:
Take the CityTrain to Cleveland from Central or Roma Street Station. Hop on one of the regular buses, marked with the Stradbroke Ferries logo, which depart from Cleveland station for a short five minute trip to Toondah Harbour, where you can catch a water taxi to your Straddie adventure.
The Straddie Bus will take you from Cleveland station to the Water Taxi or Barge.
From the Gold Coast by car:
Take the Bryants Road/Cleveland exit off the Pacific Highway and follow the signs to Cleveland, where regular vehicular ferries depart from Middle Street, Cleveland.
From the Gold Coast by bus/rail:
Buses depart regularly from the Surfers Paradise bus terminal for the Brisbane Transit Centre. Catch the CityTrain from the Transit Centre to Cleveland. Regular buses depart Cleveland railway station for Toonday Harbour where you can catch a water taxi.
North Stradbroke Island is serviced by its own bus system, with buses meeting almost every water taxi. Buses operate between Dunwich, One Mile, Amity Point and Point Lookout. The island is also serviced by taxi. Alternatively, you may take your own car over to the island using a vehicle barge service. All townships are linked with sealed roads that are accessible by conventional vehicles; however, a 4WD is required for driving on beaches and inland sand tracks. The trip from Dunwich to Point Lookout or Amity Point takes approximately 20 minutes by bus or car.
