Queensland road rules, including speed limits, apply to all roads and beaches
on North Stradbroke Island. 4WD Police vehicles including RBT regularly
patrol beaches.
Always check the tide charts before driving on a beach, and adjust these
tide times for local differences. For Main Beach on North Stradbroke Island,
the tides will occur an hour before the stated times, (eg: if the tide chart
says 7am, the tide on Main Beach will be 6am).
For your safety, driving on mining leases is not permitted.
Enter and leave the beaches at designated beach access points only.
Slow down when passing people on the beach.
Use formed tracks only and never make new tracks.
Reverse back along the track by which you enter, rather than turn on the
dune.
Avoid driving on the beaches within two hours of high tide.
Carry a "snatch-um" strap, shovel and water when going offroad.
Lower tyre pressure makes driving on sand safer and easier - consult your
tyre supplier for correct tyre pressures for your vehicle. Dont forget to
re-inflate tyres when driving on bitumen.
Where possible, drive on the section of beach between the low and high
tide water marks.
Always consider other beach users.
Stay alert and drive carefully.
Respect resting sea birds by slowing down - the beach is their habitat.
